Description
Hand wrought iron peel. This has a rare open twist bird cage handle end. The piece dates to circa 1800-1820. Peels like this were forged by blacksmiths and used for removing bread/etc from an oven or fireplace. Peels were a very difficult item to make because the wide flat end had to be pounded out of a piece of iron bar. This peel is in great condition, no holes or repairs , some pitting and wear from use. It measures 38" in length and the flat part for lifting is 6" x 7".
