ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE FIREPLACE MANTEL COADE LITHODIPYRA STONE PAIR RARE. Fantastic matching pair of antique architectural salvage fireplace mantel coade lithodipyra ornaments. I was told that these are from the Octagon House in Washington DC but I do not have written provenance to back that up. Photo number 12 shows the fireplace in the parlor of the Octagon House where they or a exact pair are below the Nymph. Coade Lithodipyra was “stone fired twice” produced in London from the 1700s-early 1800s. Each piece weighs approximately 41 pounds. They are 18 3/8” tall x 12 1/8” wide x 4 1/4” deep...that does not include the board. One piece has a crack and there is wear that commensurate with age as photos show. Stunning Patina. The Octagon House in Washington DC was built between 1798-1800 for Colonel John Tayloe III. During the War of 1812 when the British Troops destroyed the White House President James Madison lived at the Octagon House for six months while the repairs were made.
These will be local pickup only due to their rarity. The buyer can arrange their own shipping company to pickup and pack them at my location. The other items are listed in my other auctions. I will be listing several items soon so come back. Thank you. jumeau36 EST.1999
