Antique Hand Carved Mahogany Needlepoint Fireplace Screen

Description

The fireplace screen was obtained from an upscale auction several months ago. It appears to be mahogany with hand carved ornate detailed decoration. The description of the item when purchased estimated the time period to be late 1700's to early 1800's. The needle point is extremely old and very fragile with some deterioration. The subject matter is unique. See the photos. Small damage to one clawed foot. In the construction I do not see any nails or screws, just what appears to be pegs. There are some old tacks stretching the needle point to the frame and there is also a few newer staples doing the same. I do not know the history of the item and I do not know if the needlepoint is original to the hand carved frame. Either way, a very rare unique antique item to say the least.
The needlepoint is 22 1/2 in. wide x 25 in. tall. The mahogany frame is 29 in. wide x 37 in. tall.
