    Description

Antique Pennsylvania brass ladle cookpot w/riveted steel handle, hearth cooking circa 1830-1870
The pot/ladle is made of cast brass and measures 3" high, 6" across the top and 13" overall.  It has a hollow steel handle that is 7" long, with a seam down the bottom where the steel joins but is not connected.  The handle is fastened to the pot with rivets all though a little loose. The cast brass bowl has a few holes (pictured) and is out of round from use. The wrought iron handle is in good condition and is meant to have a long wood handle to allow safe use over an open fire. These were commonly used for apple butter that was cooked in a large copper kettle over an open fire but could have many other uses.
There are no markings on it. The brass bowl and handle have a great old patina but could be polished up to bring out bight brass. We only rinsed this with water to remove years of dust.
This is fresh to market from an south eastern Pennsylvania estate sale. Guaranteed old/antique 1800s item.
