    Description

    Fresh from a local Estate.....
Available for purchase is an elegant pair of sand cast brass fireplace andirons made by Harvin/Virginia Metalcrafters (VMC) in Waynesboro, Virginia.  VMC acquired the Harvin Company (Baltimore, MD) in 1953 and manufactured items with Harvin markings until VMC went out of business in 2006.  These particular andirons were made for Colonial Williamsburg and listed as the "Claw and Ball" design (CW 100-1) in VMC and Williamburg Reproductions catalogs.  These handsome reproductions were copied from a pair of brass andirons made in the late 18th century that are now is the Wythe House student's room in Williamsburg.
Each andiron measures about 24 3/8" tall, 13 1/8" wide, and 22 1/4" deep.  They are made of polished solid brass, except for the black cast iron log rests.  The side of the log rest shank is marked with the Harvin foundry mark, Colonial Williamsburg logo, and the number "CW 100-1" (see photo).  There are no VMC markings, which is not unusual for Harvin pieces made at VMC.
In case you're not already familiar with Virginia Metalcrafters (which acquired Harvin), they were in business for more than 100 years before they closed their doors in 2006. They were known throughout the world for their high quality metal products and for manufacturing faithful reproductions of rare pieces for Colonial Williamsburg. Their pieces are cherished by collectors and becoming increasingly scarce in the secondary marketplace.
Please see all pictures and zoom in as they are part of the description.
They will need to be polished to bring out the beautiful Brass that Harvin is known for.
Selling as is as seen with no returns.
    Thanks for looking.
