Edwin Hubbell Chapin (1814 - 1880). This collection includes: an early photograph, a d
aguerreotype on agate and framed in solid gold, an American coin silver covered jar / urn that reads "Rev. E. H.Chapin from his friends, Boston May 5th 1848," and a wood cane with 18 karat gold in the form of a church and bearing his name, a rose cut diamond in a star and set above a small gold cross, and a small oval gold plaque with an enameled wreath decoration and inscribed "A token of Gratitude."
Edwin Chapin was an American preacher and editor of the Christian Leader. According to Tufts, He
was present at the official opening of Tufts College in August 1856 and delivered its first commencement speech. In the 1870s, Chapin donated part of his library to the Tufts College library.

The cane measures approximately 36 inches tall, the coin silver covered urn measures approximately 9 + 3/8 inches to the top of the finial by 7 + 3/8 inches across the handles and weighs approximately 21.99 troy ounces, the daguerreotype measures approximately 1 + 3/4 inches by 1 + 3/8 inches (not including the bale) and the photograph measures approximately 6 + 1/2 inches by 4 + 1/4 inches.
