    Description

For sale is an very rare and unique antique 19th century maple sugaring ax in wonderful antique condition. It is not a fireplace or hearth tool, but I listed it under this category since this item has similar blacksmithing beauty as all the other fireplace tool I have owned and sold.
This item is shaped like a small hammer with very distinct shapes on all four sides. One side is a triangle thin blade, the oppose side a blunt hammer. One side has an smooth round indent, while the opposite side has protrusions that form a wheel. I cannot figure out exactly how each of the four parts are used, but I am continuing my research on this one. If you have a clue, feel free to message me. Overall, this is a great compact combination tool for old time maple sugaring operation. A great display and conversation piece for any antique Primitive/ country home.
It measures approximately 9” long with the iron head about 4.5” wide. There is No visible repairs and it is in original antique condition. The wooden handle has great patina, but the part that inserts into the head piece has lost some wood. The iron ax head has certain play to it but is still securely attached. The head cannot be removed from the handle. Please study the pictures carefully for detailed condition.
Feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings. I gladly combine shipping whenever practical.
