Description
Vintage 1980 set of fire irons including a hanging bracket with the Master Blacksmiths name, city and date. Jud R. Nelson was a master blacksmith who resided for most of his life in Sugar Valley, Georgia.  Mr. Nelson was invited by the Smithsonian to demonstrate his craft. He was a founding member of ABANA, Artist-Blacksmiths Association of North America. He attended the first gathering of blacksmiths in 1973 in Lumpkin, Georgia, where the accompanying photo was taken and is from the library of the Ledger Inquirer Columbus, Georgia,  In 1989, he was given the Bealer Award for his work in promoting and preserving the art and craft of blacksmithing. In 2004, Mr. Nelson was inducated into the Brotherhood Of Working Farriers Hall Of Fame. A
